How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Encouragement please

Post  tracy conabeer Sun Mar 29, 2009 2:31 pm

Hi all

I feel terrible. I have had quite a good week food wise and a really good week exercise wise having done some sort of exercise eveyday this week, albeit a short brisk walk or an exercise video.

Today i was invited out to lunch and chose a healthy king prawn & scallop salad with rice and chilli sauce, so far so good............ then i went back to a freinds house who had made 3 home made cakes and i ended up having a piece of each!! If that was not bad enough she then packed up all up with the leftovers cos she is wheat free and cant eat it (it would have been rude not to accept her kind offer! Laughing ) and i then proceeded to eat another 2 pieces tonight!!

How bad is that! I feel awful and am beginning to feel once an addict always an addict!!

Any kind words of encouragement or even a kick up the backside gratefully received!

Hello Fellow Fitties

I thought I would advise that I managed to gain 1 lb since leaving the fit farm so have changed my routine, stopped eating snacks (which ended up like meals!) and sticking to 3 meals a day which I'm finding much easier BUT would like to share with you something that I definately did learn from the fit farm - I went swimming yesterday, 1st time in ages - really wanted to swim a mile (64 lengths) but thought I'd be lucky if I managed 1/2 of that, whilst on my 40th length I remembered how I managed to get up that god damn hill/mountain in the moors and thought if I could do that I can certainly swim another 24 lengths - I DID cheers and felt amazing for doing it. Am on a mission to get fit and get rid of those blobby bits so will keep you posted.......

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty various

Post  Richard L Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:54 am

Hi all,

I hope all is well in the world of nutritionaly knowledgeable loonies like us?!?!

I managed to put on a 1lb this week and I put it down to the lack of exercise due to the bad back. I don't think it had anything to do with the 6 pints and a kebab I had last week Rolling Eyes

Barbara had a very good week. Still in her hotel she managed to exercise nearly every day and loose 2lbs!!

We had a big cooking day yesterday and managed to cook two big pans of beef stew, one as normal and one with a jalfrezi sauce, we then portioned it up and put them in the plastic containers and then into the freezer. So enough beef stew for a while. As Barbara has a day off today we are planning to do the same with the fishcakes recipe, make about 8, have some for dinner tonight and freeze the rest.

Hopefully i will be able to start exercising again next week albeit only swimming which is good as I like swimming as opposed to walking (staggering) up hills. Rolling Eyes

Found some nice cashew nut spread in Holland and Barrett, tried it on some burgen bread with a couple of poached of eggs for lunch, yummy!!!

I am off for a another visit to the chiroprator this afternoon.

Have fun and .... change! Laughing

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Oh dear ...

Post  Steve B Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:30 pm

I'm not alone then !

I somehow managed to put on 1-2lb this week, must agree with Kate, that the snacks are almost turning into meals. Rolling Eyes

I couldnt really exercise last week due to the 'bug' ive had, but the antibiotics seem to be working ok.
Had a blood test for Thyroid and awaiting results (in a way I hope is not working properly...that means I can get medication and eat cream cakes and lose weight Twisted Evil )
Woke up this morning, Monday, and felt really guilty that I had not done anything... so went for a cycle + jog / walk then cycle back... it was difficult, my legs just dont seem to want to do it !.. So, I may be up for some swimming - Richard, what pool do / will you use ?
Oh and I wish Tracy hadn't told me where to get 'cashew butter' yummy !!!

Where has everyone else disapeared to ??? exercising I hope !

Take care all

Hi you all,

Don't worry too much if you have gained a lb or two, it may be muscle that you are building!! You must also give time for your system to get accustomed to the new regime. bounce

I am itching to get back to some exercise. When I do I will probably go to yiewsley pool as it is within walking distance, it has a small gym as well for when I can expand my exercise remit Very Happy

We cooked the fishcakes last night and they were OK but a bit dry. I am not sure that the sauce in the recipe worked very well. My something new to try this week was 'Burgen' bread made with soya and linseed and it was surprisingly tasty Shocked

Barbara has bought some boxing training stuff for home, I am beginning to wonder what sort of person this boxing has released in Barbara affraid

Have fun you'all

Hi

I also tried the fish cakes and like you Richard found them very dry. I also did the chicken & advocado mixture for the wraps and it turned out nothing like the ones we had at the retreat so I am not sure they are exactly what we had there to be honest.

I tried a new exercise dvd yesterday, Davina McColl, my god i thought that hill was murder!!! I was pleasantly surprised at what i could do though so i think all that exercise we did has actually helped more than we realise.

Keep up the good work

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Small changes - make changes!

Post  Nigel Thu Apr 02, 2009 12:50 pm

Now then, don't lets despair .... we're having fun! If I recall properly, we were advised to incorporate small changes into our daily routines so that they could easily be absorbed and – as time goes on – we add more little changes which, altogether and over time, will give long term results. So my advice is to do those small changes, keep to them and give yourself some (occasional) time off to be ‘naughty’. I think you will find that if you plan to do it, you will not fall completely off the wagon. Now saying all that, I haven’t weighed myself since leaving boot camp! Must do that at the Gym tomorrow! I'm probably in for a shock. Shocked

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty hows the weight going?

Post  maureen jones Thu Apr 02, 2009 1:46 pm

Hi everyone,

Seems like a long time ago when we were all in Colditz!

Marc and I have made a few changes to our shopping lists, like the rest of you find ourselves studying every product and feel strangely repulsed by processed foods.

Made up a big tub of v healthy muesli stuffed with seeds and nuts etc.... works out quite cheap and staves off the late morning hunger a treat.
Have both cut down the carbs hugely without too much pain really. Before I sound too smug we have had a bad weekend, having sold one of our pubs and a leaving party that went on into the wee small hours. Far too much alcohol and hangover food the next day! Its too hard to be a puritan all the time.
Marc has lashed out a lot of dosh on a bike and cycling gear and has been really getting into that. I am trying to vary my exercise regime. I like the weights and ball and toning and have done a few runs, but went down with a cold the day we came home and have found it v hard to shake off.
This has slowed me down somewhat along with a very busy working week and moving my daughter into a flat. Takes effort to make the time for all this exercise, but must try harder.

Poor Hilary, all that mammoth effort and then to be struck down with a bad back. Dont despair, I know you will bounce back and achieve your goal.

Keep at it everyone and I am a big fan of the green and blacks. Did you know they now do an 80% bar. Its too strong to want too much and eat enough and the milk chocolate tastes almost sickly (well almost).

Regards to all
Marc and Maureen

Hi you all,

Hope all is well with everyone and that we are all happy Laughing

I have just had my weekly weigh in and I have lost half a pound. So in the two weeks since our 'holiday' Exclamation i have managed to put on half a pound. Given the amount of exercise I have been doing..NONE I am quite pleased with this.

Went to the chiropractor again yesterday and got the all clear to begin some 'gentle' exercise so wake up workouts and hill walking are out, shame Rolling Eyes

So I will be starting to go swimming next week and see if that helps which I'm sure it will. Very Happy

Keep going everyone in your own way and remember 'Rome wasn't built in a day' although what building has got to do with it.....

We are only Human and do enjoy the good things in life like the occassional excess alcohol (just think of the fried breakfast the next morning bounce )

Haven't decided what is going to be our something new for this week yet, maybe a trip to the shops is called for.

Anyway 'her indoors' is home later today so it is beer and curry tonight Laughing

Have Fun you all

Good Morning All

I have had my weekly weigh in too today and am extremely pleased to say that I have lost 3lb since last week Very Happy so a total of 2lb since leaving the fit farm cheers . The cutting out on snacks is definately helping me, I have been struggling with exercise as I am in the process of waiting for an injection in my back and one in my hip affraid so am sticking to walking, swimming and pilates.

Sounds like everyone is doing really well despite recovering from various injuries clown

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty How's your weight + or -

Post  tonygearuk Sun Apr 05, 2009 8:11 am

Hi All

I've not been involved this week in the forum to much as I've had 50 people from Turkey to Estonia to Portugal to entertain this week so expected a really bad week weight wise BUT Razz still managed to loose another 4lbs, that's exactly a stone since first weighing in 3 years, I mean weeks ago (that's all it is).

what's surprising is I'm not doing too much, I've cut out tea, coffee and definitely a decrease in alcohol but every day last week I had a glass of wine and thursday a very lot of many drinks (Friday was a bad head day) The biggest change is the reduction in carbs and snacks, maybe this makes the difference. I tret myself to some new jeans yesterday, size 38" down from 42", one more size and I can buy 501's (they dont make them for fatties)

Come on everyone, If I can do it so can you, keep your head up, your thoughts positive and you too can see the benefits

Post  Richard L Sat Apr 11, 2009 5:58 am

Hi there guys and gals,

I hope you are all having fun this easter.
I have to admit that following my exercise this week I managed to put on a pound so I wasn't in the best of moods this weekend No and, lo and behold, a box of chocolates mysteriously Rolling Eyes dissappeared last night in front of the telly. You should have seen the look I got from Barbara. What a Face

Anyway all done now so will try and monitor, more closely, what I am eating next week to see if there is a reason for the stability i.e. eating too much as a snack maybe Question

Swimming and walking will be the theme for next week so we will see how it goes.
The Wii sounds like good fun especially as Barbara bought her boxing gloves recently Idea no doubt we may treat each other to a Wii soon.

Have a good easter everyone

Post  Richard L Fri Apr 17, 2009 1:36 am

Hi everyone,

Is there anyone there as it has been very quiet this week on the forum Sad

I hope everyone is well and that Easter came and went without too much trauma Rolling Eyes

Despite having a less than perfect Easter weekend (2 boxes of chocolates Embarassed )
I have managed to loose a whole pound this week cheers which finally gets me back to the same weight as our last weigh in on our memorable wieght loss retreat. I remember how good I felt then so, given the no exercise for the first couple of weeks and a bad Easter, I am very pleased to be where I am. I have managed 3 treadmill walks this week doing 6.3 KM each time, I walk for an hour at 6.3km per hour. It is helpfull for my back as there are no curbs or uneven roads to navigate just a constant pace.
Next week I plan to alternate the walks with the swimming and I am going to try and exercise everyday next week. although you know what they say about the 'best laid plans' etc. Rolling Eyes

The food side of things is going really well. We made some oat bars at the weekend and they were very good Very Happy although on the first batch we did forget to put the oats in the mix, DOH!!! No However the second batch was very good and it has been a very useful snack food during the week. We added some dried fruit to the mix which has given it some moisture and a range of tastes.

My back is still giving me some trouble although the range of available movement is much better now. I still visit the chiropractor on a regular basis. I still have to be careful about sitting down and getting up, driving a car etc.

I hope you are all well and happy.

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Keeping it up - just!

Post  Nigel Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:33 am

Hi Richard & everyone! I suspect it's quiet as this is the second week of Easter holidays and most are taking some kind of break; my Easter weekend was lovely - as was the birthday celebrations on the Saturday, the BBQ on the Sunday, followed by the away-day picnic at the Classic Car Meet on the Monday! With all that going on, I was surprised to see that I am still below the weight after the 'final day Fit Farm weigh-in' - quell surprise! Shocked It must be the 3 x weekly gym sessions - and the lawn mowing that's doing the job! I have found that on a normal Monday - Friday work week, I have no problem at all with maintaining the diet guidelines, eating sensibly and maintaining or losing weight. My biggest problem is weekend entertainment! I really do find it terribly difficult to just say 'no' and stick to it. silent So that issue is the major challenge for me - I don't know how I am going to deal with that yet .... unless I retreat into hibernation at weekends! Sad In the meantime, I am due to go to the MG Jersey Rally 1-7 May - hmmmm, what weight-loss did I hear you say?

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Getting worried

Post  tonygearuk Fri Apr 17, 2009 5:07 am

Hi All, things have been so quiet I thought everyone had gone back to Devon!!!

I've had a week off work so the golf course and the Wii have taken a hammering this week but I'm worried that I continue to loose weight at an alarming rate. The Wii tells me I've lost 6lbs this week alone and from our first weigh in 5 weeks ago today I am now 1st 8lbs lighter. I'm not sure if this is good or bad??

Still I'm eating, not hungry at all and drinking maybe twice a week so I've not gone mad. The only big difference is I've not had a coffee since Michel put me off it for life on the first Saturday

Come on let's hear some positives from everyone else and also see if any women still can use this forum

Take care all

Hi Tony, Wow! Getting worried? My goodness 6lb in a week? I, and the rest of the class I am sure, would be happy to achieve just a consistent 1or 2 lbs a week! I think you had better share your diet and exercise routine with the rest of us - golf is good but not that strenuous, perhaps its the WiiFit? I have just put one on order and expect it to be delivered in the next 4 days. So whats the secret Tony - out with it now, now now! bounce

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty no Secrects

Post  tonygearuk Sat Apr 18, 2009 6:57 am

You're right golf's not to taxing but it's a good 5 mile walk and carrying a 25 kg bag helps, non of this old man stuff using electric trolleys.

On the Wii Fit Hula Hoops, remember them when we were kids?, they're great working abs and cardio. You can also do the ponsy stuff like Yoga and balance excersies as weel as a bit of boxing so it really works well.

Food wise, not so much alcohol, but I have not cut it out completely, lots of salad and fish and not so many carbs otherwise not much else changed. Still had one easter egg last week so not all goody goody.

Just think positive thoughts, I feel better loosing weight so want to keep it up and really dont feel that I'm "dieting" the thoguht of the word puts you off

Let's hear about everyone else

Post  Richard L Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:32 am

Feeling really down this morning. Mad
I have managed to exercise 5 times this week. I eagerly jumped on the scales today to find I had GAINED a pound! No

I have walked on the treadmill 3 times at 6.3 KM each and swam 50, 33 yard lengths twice this week.

Obvioulsy I have been eating more than I need Rolling Eyes

I think that one of the problems is that I have been enjoying the cooking as I have plenty of time. Obviously portion control is still an issue DOH!! Embarassed

I also couldn't stop thinking about cigarettes this week, there have been times when I could have... affraid

Anyway enough of my tough life. How's everyone doing?

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Down but not out - obviously!

Post  Nigel Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:41 am

Hi Richard, I reckon the scales were faulty - ignore them, Wink get on with your exercise and diet routine and things will regain their earlier momentum. Good point about the portion control though - I do find if I overeat, then I will want more. But if I stay with small portions it doesn't have that effect. Another point, I have decided to reduce reliance on 'snacks' (i.e. dried fruits and nuts) - I find that they are too 'more 'ish'. So I am replacing snacks with apples or pears or a dry Ryvita and that appears to do the trick. (Oh, and don't forget, if you do a lot of gym work on the weights, you will build muscle - which is heavier than fat. With exercise, suggest you keep to lower (toning) weights but extend the number of repetitions).

Thanks for the ideas Nigel, I have found that the 'small' handful of nuts and fruit has become bigger and bigger Shocked

I vertainly find the snacks very moorish. I also found that the flapjacks I made are extremely nice and very easy to eat too much of it.

Most of the exercise I do at the moment is cardio based although it still does develop the muscle as well.

I'm sure I will be back on track next week Smile With a closer watch on the portions I hope for more success bounce

How is your 'weight' doing + or - Empty Holidays are not a problem!

Post  Nigel Mon May 11, 2009 12:54 pm

Amazing result! I have been on holiday for the past 10 days attending the MG Car Rally on the island of Jersey so missed weighing-in over the past 2 weeks. Having just returned, I was expecting the very worst (the hotel we stayed at in Gorey was excellent; the food was faultless with silver service breakfasts and evening dinners Reception Party, Fancy Dress Party, Concours Awards Dinner and the final farewell party .....). I took part in everything going but restricted myself to 1 G&T and 1 large glass of Red Wine each evening - It was difficult to remember to stay within my diet plan - except one thing - I kept to small portions of everything.
And it appears to have worked. Thank God! Having returned and after eyeing up the bathroom scales with some trepidation, I took the plunge - stepped up - and saw to my amazement that I had reduced by 3.5 lbs since my last weigh-in. I have, I am glad to say, broken the 14 stone barrier! For me this is a big result as I have not been in the 13 stone range for a donkey's age - and it has given me a renewed impetus to carry on.I hope that you all are doing just as well - and if not - I hope my tale will help you too! Smile
